And on the way to Bologna

Hello everyone,

I’m catching up with you all as I sit on the train to Bologna - the 2025 BCBF prep is the reason I’ve been away for so long, I was updating my portfolio, preparing book dummies, writing pitches and ordering prints.

This year is my third BCBF and I’m bringing Broderick the bat with me, this is my third author illustrator picture book going on submission and I hope Broderick has a fun time introducing himself to everyone at the fair.

I am also bringing plenty of business cards and postcards, this year I had three different covers printed and it will be interesting to see which one gets most attention.

I packed a sketchbook, a pencil case with various materials and a box of Neocolor II pastels hoping to spend some time sketching in town in the evenings. This year I would also like to participate in more lectures and master classes and really take time to study all the wonderful picture books from all over the world.

So here’s me attempting a smile and slowly settling in after a restless night - during which the clocks got pushed forward so I only slept for a few hours. But my train is taking me to sunny Italy and I am looking forward to meeting as many of my fellow illustrators as I can - if you spot my polka dot lanyard, say hi!
